Aim:
To present Turkish culture and to teach Turkish language
at the beginner level to foreign people who live, study
or work in Istanbul
The course attendees must be foreigners who
-live, study or work in Istanbul
-know English
Program:
Week 1
-Session1
Topic: Alphabet, name, nationality, professions, age,
address, gender.
Structure: Pronouns-ım-im-um-üm, Bu ne? – Bu kim?
Functional: Introduction-greeting-numbers
Starting the lesson with a map of Turkey.
Meeting each student and shaking their hand.
Listening to some dialogues about greeting.
Practising “Bu ne, bu kim” with flashcards
-Session2
How to address people e.g. “hanım, bey, abi, teyze”.
Being a guest at a Turkish house, taking your shoes off.
Greeting each other.
Week 2
-Session1
Topic: Languages, weather-time-food-schedule.
Structure: vowel harmony-adverbs of places-mı, mi
questions, değil, plurals, var-yok
Functional: Talking about daily Schedule, describing a
place.
Practising “var, yok, questions and negatives” with
realia.
Making students describe the places on pictures.

Turkish cuisine, Breakfast Culture.
Week 3

Topic: Transportation-hospitality-school/work-money-shopping
Structure:Personal possesives-consanant harmony- de/da-
den/dan-adjectives,kimde-nerede?-ne kadar-kaça?
Functional: Describing- bargain-shopping
Listening-at a shopping mall
Role Play-shopping
Describing some Turkish celebrities.

Role Play-going to a party/making an excuse when
declining.
Writing a paragraph describing a day
