On behalf of Doğuş University Mechanical Engineering Department students and academicians, hello.

Close your eyes and think about what you're doing today. You got up in the morning, washed your face, maybe took a shower, watched TV, dressed up and had a hot cup of tea or coffee, had breakfast, put your shoes on, left the house and locked the door, went down by elevator, went to the metrobus / subway and went to work or school. You turned on your computer and visited our university's web-page. Did you ever think that a mechanical engineer was involved in all of this? These were the things you see every day and the things you don't see; prostheses, artificial heart valves, all the instruments used by dentists and so on. It is almost impossible to find an area or product that the mechanical engineer has not touched.

Engineers design and produce products that make our lives easier by transforming theoretical and experimental knowledge gained from mathematical and natural sciences into practice. In the words of William Allan Wulf, former president of the American National Academy of Engineering, "Science is what happens, and engineering is what can happen."

In this context, mechanical engineering is the most comprehensive field of engineering and has an important place in technological developments. From the industrial revolution to the present day, it has been and has been the locomotive in the discovery of space and, of course, in technological developments in medicine as well as in the developments in highway, maritime and airways. The production and economic use of energy, which is one of the most important problems of our time, is also a matter of interest to us mechanical engineers. Because of these characteristics, it is an engineering branch where science, technology and industrial production intersect and interact with each other.

Mechanical Engineers are the Creators of Change…

Nowadays, companies are looking for social, multi-faceted, creative and initiative-taking mechanical engineers who know product and process developments, can perform cost analysis, are equipped with interdisciplinary information, can work with engineers and managers in different fields.

The development of mechanical engineering has been around for centuries. The ancestors of this profession, blacksmiths, millers and founders have created and developed technology in their own time with more talent, experience and dexterity. Nowadays, mechanical engineers have to have special knowledge and skills that can be obtained with a good education.

So, with all these features, is mechanical engineering a profession for you?

As mentioned above, if you are excited to design and produce products that will enable people to lead a healthy, comfortable and safe life, mechanical engineering can be a suitable profession for you. You should especially like mathematics and science lessons. The most important tool used by a mechanical engineer is mathematics. The solution of each model that we will develop in our theoretical studies includes mathematics; therefore mathematics is a must for us. Furthermore, in today's world, engineering problems require interdisciplinary cooperation, in other words, teamwork, because they are complex and multidisciplinary. So you have to have team spirit. In many areas, you will have to work with doctors, musicians, directors, astronauts and people from different engineering disciplines, such as health (biomechanical-biomedical), entertainment (such as music and film industry), space studies. For all these reasons, good mechanical engineering education will allow you to easily adapt to many areas of rapidly developing technology.

Mechanical Engineering at Doğuş University: Mechanical engineering is divided into two broad areas: mechanical systems and thermal systems. Mechanical systems include the design, analysis, strength and behavior of materials. Such topics include static, dynamic, materials science, strength, machine elements, vibration and machine design. Thermal systems, on the other hand, involve the analysis of systems containing heat, energy or fluid motion. Such topics include thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, energy conversion, air conditioning and ventilation. You will apply what you have learned in these courses in your laboratory studies in experimental Engineering I and II courses and learn the fundamentals of experimental engineering. In addition, areas of interest such as robotics, automotive, nanotechnology, energy, air conditioning and ventilation, production, control and automation are supported by a large number of departments, faculty and university elective courses.

Within today's technology, mechanical engineers should be able to use computers very well. Because many of the parts and products that we think of the production of complex simulations using computer programs and their behavior under various external factors should be examined with the help of these simulations. In short, a virtual prototype (first sample) of each product must be created and many examinations made. Therefore, you will be asked to do homework and projects during your education. Programs such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, MATLAB and SOLIDWORKS are just a few of the things you'll often use. For example, at the annual Spaghetti Bridge competition, our students develop their designs using the West Point Bridge Design Contest software. For details, I suggest you visit our section page and watch our contest videos.

Our Mechanical Engineering education program provides the opportunity to benefit from the courses they took during their previous education for the graduates of related faculties of Education Faculties and Vocational Schools.

Career Opportunities in Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers are employed in areas of increasing importance in today's world. First; space, aircraft, automotive, biomedical, chemical, computer, electronics, energy, heating, ventilation, manufacturing, robotics and textiles. Mechanical engineers work in different departments or units such as research, development, design, testing and evaluation, manufacturing and production, maintenance / repair, marketing and administration.

Another important area is the institutions in the fields of project design and consultancy. Although consulting requires experience, many engineers prefer to work in the field of consulting after gaining this experience in established institutions. Of course, another way is to pursue an academic career to educate and motivate young people. The work of academics is not limited to education, but also to research and contribute to science is a part of this life and a very enjoyable part.

Lifelong Learning…

Science and technology are developing rapidly ... Keeping up with this development is possible only by constantly renewing ourselves. This is a clear indication that learning is not limited to university years. For this purpose, you will become a member of professional organizations, follow national and international publications and attend professional conferences. In short, there is no end to learning. There is no end to mechanical engineering, but let me stop here. Thank you for visiting our website, I wish everything in life will be as you wish.

Stay with love…
