Electrical - Electronics Engineering

Program Language: Turkish
Program Type: Thesis / Non-Thesis

Objectives of the Program

Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) covering a wide range of fields such as Electronic System, Communication, Signal Processing and information Technologies, has been declared as the profession of the 21st century (Hürriyet, 7 November 2001). In parallel with this announcement, 58 of the 100 students who have achieved the highest score in the 2005 University entrance exam have chosen ECE departments.

There are two main problems in preparing EHM programs whether undergraduate or post-graduate: i) establishing a coherent and comprehensive program due to the wide scientific field, ii) the necessity to change the program radically in every 8-10 years due to rapid scientific and technological innovations.

The two basic elements of meeting these requirements are that the program has the same dynamics and has a distinguished academic staff to monitor and implement the changes. The program and qualified academic staff offered at Doğuş University have been carefully selected to meet these requirements.

Structure of the Program
Doğuş University has two master's degree programs in Turkish, one with thesis and the other without thesis. The aim of this program is to educate engineers who have the necessary basic knowledge in this wide and complex field, who follow the innovations and can apply them by doing research.

Students admitted to the Master's Program with Thesis are required to take at least twenty-four credit courses, at least three of which are compulsory courses, and prepare a thesis with a non-credit seminar under the supervision of the supervisor. More than compulsory courses can also be taken as elective courses. A maximum of two courses, from ECE undergraduate program which have 400 coded or Computer Engineering MSc program, can be selected with the approval of the advisor. In order to graduate, the student must defend his / her thesis successfully in front of a jury.

A student who is accepted to the non-thesis program takes at least nine credits instead of thesis and prepare a non-credit term project under the supervision of his / her advisor. For other courses, requirements for Master of Science (MSc) with thesis are valid. Upon successful completion of the courses, the student must pass the oral proficiency exam.

Postgraduate and Scientific Preparation Courses
Courses to be taken in the Master's program are grouped in three groups. List A is compulsory, list B is elective, and list C shows the scientific preparation courses which should be taken from the students coming from other science departments. Those who have a bachelor's degree in different fields of science should take maximum eight courses firstly from list C or A and B  in two semesters with the request of the advisor and the approval of Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences  Board of Directors. Course numbers starting with a numerical code of six are in principle for the Ph.D. program and may be taken by the M.Sc. students with the approval of the supervisor and the instructor.
