Courses

Students will be able to understand a text that is read and listened correctly; to gain the habit of scientific, critical, questioning, interpretive, creative and constructive thinking; our aim is to ensure that our national culture and language contribute to the development and preservation of our national culture. Applications are made to direct students to think about the current problems of Turkish, to produce solutions and to transfer these solutions to their environment in real life.

The aim of the course is to enable students to understand correctly the text they read or listen. More particularly, it aims to support students to gain scientific, critical, inquisitive, interpretive, creative and constructive thinking skills. Moreover, within this course students are expected to contribute to the preservation and development of Turkish culture and language within the prospect of universal culture. Furthermore, students are provided with guidance and exercise of practical knowledge in order to enable them to think about the current problems of Turkish language, produce solutions and to transfer these solutions to their surroundings in real life.

This course is taught in both semesters. Firstly, the basic characteristics related to production of sounds and structure in Turkish language are taught. Secondly, basic verb conjugations, basic rules, patterns and styles of daily communication together with spoken and written techniques are taught. Within this course, students will be able to practice these in terms of practical exercises. In particular, students will be reading simple texts in newspapers and magazines in order to gain comprehension skills, and identify main and supporting ideas in these texts.

This course aims:
-To express the historical meaning and importance of Turkish Revolution.
-To analytically perceive: the changes that occured in the Ottoman Empire since the 19th century and the reasons for the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and attempts to prevent its collapse.
- To evaluate the preparation and war phases of the War of Independence after which Turkish nation gained its independence and maintained its existence, all in relation to the phases of the establishment of a new and modern state based on national sovereignty. 
-To show the efforts made by the Republic of Turkey during the Atatürk period in creation of domestic and foreign policy and the efforts made and achievements gained in order to reach economic prosperity.
-To introduce students about the process and the steps made in the area of the creation of Turkish nation as contemporary civilization, which was reached through the revolutions in the social and cultural field.
-To explain Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's profile as a soldier, political leader, and reformist. Moreover, to introduce his theoretical ideologies and emphasize his position in the international community. Finally, to also understand his personal characteristics.
-To comprehend the Atatürk Revolutions in the direction of rational, scientific and national principles, and to raise awareness and develop students’ comprehension abilities of the current developments made within the Turkish Republic.

-To give a brief introduction to history of the Ottoman Empire with a focus on the transformation made in the 19th century, covering the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and various attempts to prevent its collapse. 
-To elaborate the global contemporary vision and rationale behind the Turkish Revolution, phases of transformation from “Empire” to “Nation-State” as well as the military and diplomatic achievements during the National Independence Struggle. 
-To analyze Atatürk’s biography and personality as a global leader and a hero, who changed the course of history so as to help Turkish people regain independence and the right to decide on their own fate.
-To give an overall presentation of major reforms in education, politics and the entire social life, following the formation of the Republic.
