Message from the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services

The Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services plans and implements, in collaboration with our students, activities in areas such as culture, art, sport, careers, psychological counselling, student club activities and similar fields, which lie outside their academic lives. We aim to make our students’ academic lives valuable, enjoyable and productive, and to add colourful and lasting touches to the mosaic of their lives.

The primary mission of the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services is to equip our students, from their very first day at university, not only with academic skills but also with the personal, social, cultural, artistic and physical development they need, and to create an environment where they can acquire the skills necessary to become successful and effective individuals in both their professional and social lives through activities in these areas.

Established with this mission, the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services supports, encourages and guides students’ social, cultural, artistic and sporting activities, as well as events in all areas of their interest. Our students carry out activities in their areas of interest through student clubs they have formed together, and to this end, a wide range of clubs continue their work under the supervision of the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services. We currently have 65 clubs covering academic, cultural-artistic and sporting content.

The fundamental philosophy underpinning the dynamic process established between the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services and the students is to engage them in educational activities aligned with their interests, talents, inclinations and career goals, from their preparatory year right through to graduation, whilst also enriching their academic development. The aim is to make university life more vibrant, enjoyable and fulfilling, thereby fostering an intellectual atmosphere within the university. To this end, the Academic and Social Orientation (ASO 101) course is delivered under the coordination of the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services. This compulsory course for our new students aims to help them find answers to the many questions that may arise in the early days of their new lives. The aim is to enable them to gain an understanding of university life in general, to get to know Doğuş University better, and to facilitate their development in terms of general culture by taking advantage of the cultural, artistic and intellectual meetings we organise, thereby providing them with an intellectual foundation alongside their professional education. This course runs throughout the autumn academic year and consists of a variety of different activities.

The Student Assistant Programme has been in operation since the 2004–2005 academic year to enable Doğuş University students to gain work experience within the university’s working environment during their studies, to develop socially and culturally, to become more familiar with the university’s various departments, and to earn a modest income. Under this programme, students selected annually are given the opportunity to work for a maximum of 22.5 hours per week within the administrative units of Doğuş University.

To encourage students’ outstanding achievements outside of their studies, the Extracurricular Activities Awards are presented each year at the end of the spring term to students selected by the Awards Committee established within the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services.

The Doğuş University Student Council was established to determine students’ views on meeting the educational, health, sporting and cultural needs of students enrolled in the University’s associate degree, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to communicate these views to the governing bodies, and to facilitate communication between the governing bodies and students. The Student Council, formed by students from all departments at our University electing their own department representatives, who in turn elect faculty representatives, works to strengthen relations between students and the administration within the framework of creating a democratic and free university environment; its activities are supported and overseen by the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services.

Furthermore, the Career Centre, Alumni Office and Sports Coordination Unit, which operate within the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports Services, continue their activities and operations under the Directorate’s supervision.
